| All
team-associated students are subject to the Athletic Code only during
the season (fall, winter, spring) in which they participate
in athletics. However, all students, whether or not team associated,
are subject at all times to the rules, regulations, and sanctions
set forth by the Lincoln Park School District Board Policy Book
and the Lincoln Park Middle School Student Handbook. This “Team-Associated
Student’s Code of Conduct” shall not diminish the authority
of the Board of Education to impose athletic or other sanctions
for any in-season conduct deemed to interfere with the orderly administration
of the school system. |

|
|
| A
“team associated student” is one involved in the Junior
High athletic program as an athlete, manager, and/or statistician. |
| |
|
|
| An
"athletic season” extends from the first day of tryouts
to the final interscholastic event, including the tournaments. |

Athletic

Any
student who fails a subject is ineligible for athletic participation.
A student is only eligible for participation in athletics if he/she
has passed all subjects and maintains an overall C average. The
student will be evaluated by the administration, guidance department,
academic team, coach, and Athletic Director. The student and parents/guardians
will be informed of the eligibility requirements and the resulting
plan of action if necessary. A student will be allowed to participate
in athletics again only after the following marking period report
card has been issued as long as he/she has passed all subjects and
maintains an overall C average. |

Appeal
Process |
| |
Lincoln
Park Middle School makes every effort to work cooperatively with
parents and team associated students in the administration of
the Athletic Code. Parents who feel their team associated student
has been unfairly accused of and/or penalized for a violation
under the Athletic Code may appeal the decision. The appeal should
begin with the person who determined that a violation occurred.
A sanction may be immediately imposed so long as, within a reasonable
time, thereafter, a hearing upon notice is held to determine the
propriety of the sanctions. |
| |
1.
|
Students
and/or parents are requested to discuss their concerns with the
team coach. |
| |
2.
|
If
the parties concerned feel that the discussion with the coach has
not led to a satisfactory conclusion, they may continue the appeal
with the Director of Athletics in an attempt to reach an amicable
conclusion. |
| |
3.
|
If
the parties concerned feel that the discussion with the Director
of Athletics has not led to a satisfactory conclusion, they may
continue the appeal with the building principal. |
| |
4. |
If
the situation is not resolved to the satisfaction of the appellant,
it may be further appealed to the Superintendent of Schools. The
appeal to the Superintendent must be in writing specifying the nature
of the problem. The Superintendent shall attempt to resolve the
matter promptly and shall communicate his decision in writing, with
reasons, to the parties concerned. |
| |
5. |
If
the decision rendered by the Superintendent is not deemed satisfactory
by the appellant, the appellant may request a review by the Board
of Education. Such requests shall be submitted in writing. The Board
of Education shall review the appeal and may, at its discretion,
conduct a hearing. The Board of Education shall render a written
decision. |
| |
|
| (If,
between any of the preceding steps, the appeal is not continued
by the appellant, applicable sanctions, mentioned above, will be
imposed.) |
