Friday February 14th - Full-Day of School

February 12, 2014

Dear Parents/Guardians & Students:

Due to the storm forecasted to hit the area tomorrow, a revision is being made to the district calendar. Friday, February 14th will now become a full-day of school for the students. In the letter that was sent to you on February 6th, the district modified the calendar making the 14th a half-day of school for students with the staff using the afternoon for professional development.  This new change is being made because of the amount of snow forecasted this Thursday.  It may be necessary for the district to call for a delayed opening on Friday.   With the NJ State regulations, the district cannot have an early dismissal and a delayed opening on the same day to have it count as a day of school.

The following are the changes to the calendar:

  • Friday, February 14th a full-day of school for students and staff.
  • Monday, March 3rd a half-day for students and a full-day for staff.
  • If any additional emergency closings are needed, we will take days from the district’s spring break, beginning with Monday, April 14th.

The revised school calendar will be posted on the district website.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact my office.

Sincerely,

James W. Grube

Superintendent of Schools

2013-14 School Calendar Revision

February 6, 2014

Re: Calendar Change

Dear Parents/Guardians & Students:

At the February 4th board meeting a decision was made to modify the existing 2013-2014 school calendar, due to the number of snow closings used so far this year.  As of today we need to make up one day of school.  Since it is only the first week in February we are concerned that additional days will be needed as we proceed through the year.  At this time we are going to pull back two days from the calendar, which will provide the district with one additional closing day if needed.   If more than one day is needed we will need to look to the Spring Recess, starting with Monday, April 14th.  Hopefully, additional days will not be necessary.  The following changes to the calendar have been made:

  • Friday, February 14th and Monday, March 3rd will now be half days of school for the students.  The LPMS students will be dismissed at 12:50 PM and the LPES students will be dismissed at 1:25 PM.  The teaching staff will use the afternoons for professional development.

The Board of Education and I realize that changing the school calendar is not easy on anyone, but at this time we feel this is the best option for the district to prepare for the remainder of the year.  The revised school calendar is posted on the district website.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact my office.

Sincerely,

James W. Grube

Superintendent of Schools
