Welcome to Mr. Toppeta's Class
As a physical education teacher, my goal is to instruct my students about the importance of health, exercise, and fitness. I like to create a positive learning environment that allows students to enjoy and be engaged in daily physical activities. I feel that a healthy body will benefit students. I encourage students to be healthy and fit to not only decrease the risk of disease but also enhance them academically. A proper physical education curriculum will help students achieve a well rounded education in all subject areas.
According to cdc.gov, childhood obesity has more than tripled since 1980. Among children ages 6-19, 16% (over 9 million) are considered overweight. Children and teens that are overweight may begin to experience health consequences during their youth as well as put themselves at risk for weight related health problems. Obesity is a major health factor which can lead to diseases such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, coronary heart disease, atherosclerosis, and even diabetes. Children who stay active decrease the risk of these factors. Keeping children active will not eliminate obesity completely, but it will at least get them moving.
